A lovely small hotel with lake view

A charming hotel on a quiet location with plenty of space, surrounded by beautiful nature. In the rural Greek country side, near the traditional Cretan village of Avdou, lies the romantic Country Hotel Velani. 

The moment you arrive on the hillside of the country hotel you immediately experience the serenity of the setting and the tremendous panoramic view. Under the hotel stretches the Langada Valley traversed by the Aposelemis Lake; above the hotel rise the majestic, red-coloured peaks of the Dikti Mountains. Birds of prey, like the Griffon Vulture, glide along these pinnacles.
The estate is surrounded by protected Kermes Oak forest and olive groves stretching down to the valley. On the estate many protected trees and flowers can be found, including different types of orchids.

Rural hotel

The country hotel’s construction was specially designed to be sympathetic with the landscape, built with local stone collected from the land it stands on, giving it a robust and natural look. The hotel has a neo-classic style creating a romantic atmosphere for long summer nights.

The main building houses the reception and bar with a large balcony on which you can drink your Greek coffee or Rakí. In the main building you also find the Velani Restaurant with its large terrace overlooking the riding school and the valley. The restaurant serves the Cretan diet; delicious home-cooked food made with fresh produce from both our own land and local products of the area.

Relaxing

The small country hotel has 12 rooms which are grouped into 2 bungalows each housing 6 hotel rooms. The bungalows are situated a little distance away from the main activities to ensure peace and quiet. The hotel rooms are large and comfortable and all have a tremendous view over the valley. Wellness rooms are available with a 2 person infrared sauna inside the privacy of your room.

The Country Hotel has a large infinity pool with a separately located children’s pool. Relax on the sun deck enjoying the stunning view.
A private 5 person Jacuzzi with hydro massage is available at charge.

In the hotel it is possible to sign up for several nature activities such as horse riding, walking and biking, Yoga during yoga weeks and paragliding. It is also possible to take a Thai or Swedish massage.
